Gurdjieff quotes
May. 22nd, 2007 08:16 am"Listen. You have now found the conditions in which the desire of your heart can become the reality of your being. Stay here until you acquire a force in you that nothing can destroy. Then you will need to go back into life, and there you will measure yourself constantly with forces which will show you your place."

"What do you call learning? If it means storing up experiences and beliefs, it will tie you like a cord and prevent you from knowing. Knowing happens directly, when not even a thought stands between you and the thing you know. Then you see yourself as you are, not as you would like to be."

The ultimate Truth of life
Sep. 18th, 2006 05:12 amThe near stars and our galaxy were so bright in the sky tonight thanks to the crystal clear atmosphere and late-rising crescent moon. It was a glorious sight!
But every time I see the night sky like this, I think, what a shame it is that we can't see our galactic core from Earth. All that intervening cosmic dust forever obscuring our view of what surely must be a truly astounding celestial vision.
If our ancestors could have seen our galaxy in its full luminosity, we never would have bothered worshipping the sun, or likely any single deity, because we could look upward and see with our own eyes – throughout the day and the night – that it was the galaxy and the universe beyond that which are the greatest and most eternal of all powers.
And when I'm in this starstruck state, I think of The Ultimate Truth Of Life, which is really quite simply stated.
"There is a world – and a universe beyond the world – and I am a part of it."
That single fleeting spark of consciousness which is You is a preciousness beyond all reckoning. Treasure it. As long as you live – every single day – treasure it...

Seven simple rules
Jan. 2nd, 2005 05:39 amA long time ago, I came up with my own little set of commandments. These are my personal "Thou shalts" and "Thou shalt nots"...
Mind Your Business
Mind Your Temper
Mind Your Tongue
Commit No Crimes
Make No Enemies
Tell No Lies
and above all...
Do No Harm
To me, the most important thing in life is my freedom – my personal liberty. From this derives all happiness. Essential to maintaining one's freedom is staying out of trouble – trouble with other people, and trouble with the law. Following these simple rules, I have stayed out of trouble my whole adult life. I think they can do the same thing for just about anyone. :-)

Let a man decide
May. 31st, 2004 05:54 pm"I have noticed in my life that all men have a liking for some special animal, tree, plant, or spot of earth. If men would pay more attention to these preferences and seek what is best to do in order to make themselves worthy towards that to which they are so attracted, they might have dreams which would purify their lives. Let a man decide upon his favorite animal and make a study of it, learning its innocent ways. Let him learn to understand its sounds and motions. The animals want to communicate with man, but Wakantanka does not intend that they shall do so directly -- man must do the greater part in securing an understanding."
