Family Album on flickr
Feb. 15th, 2011 10:58 pmOver the past few weeks, and mostly just since the beginning of this year, the vision in my left eye has deteriorated significantly. I was first diagnosed with a posterior subcapsular cataract in that eye back in 2009, but I had no noticeable symptoms until just recently. Now, however, my vision is getting perceptibly worse week-by-week, and suddenly, I feel myself in a race against time.
One thing I've been meaning to do for awhile is to put all of my best family photos in an album on the web. Since I have no immediate family to pass them down to, I've always been afraid these images will be lost, and I especially want my mother's and father's pictures to be preserved. Anyway, now that I'm losing vision in one of my eyes, this album project has become my top priority.
So about a week ago, I made a new account on flickr for this purpose. Have a look – there's already quite a lot of content there.

I know most of these pictures have already been posted here over the years, but all of the new images on flickr have been "remastered" from the original scans, and they are also presented in their native resolution (mostly 300dpi). Definitely an improvement over past versions you may have seen here before.
I don't know when I'll have surgery on this eye, but it's definitely going to happen sooner rather than later. I'll be talking with my eye doctor about my options this coming Friday.
