For ages, I've been looking for a nice birth-year California license plate, and just last week, I finally found one! It's the black one at top:

Check out that stamped steel annual registration tag! (Without it, the plate itself says "51.") I was way too little to remember the black plates when they were in use, but I sure remember the yellow ones that first came out in 1956. Actually, that yellow plate there was one of the very first collectibles I ever bought (I've had that since I was in high school). Pretty cool, huh? Well, at least I think so. ^^
